The trees which have taken root atop the lava flows spewed forth from a former eruption range from 200 to 300 years and cover the region in an unbroken, primeval forest. A treasury for wild deer and birdlife as well.

Known as ‘the mirror of heaven and earth,’ 2305m above sea level, is Mt. Fuji Gogome (‘5th Station’). This cavern was created by receding lava flows. During the winter, underground water from Mt. Fuji drops from the ceiling to form icicles and frozen pillars, creating a beautifully mysterious world of ice.
